What is ARS all about?

You may have received a return label when you purchased your item from places like Victoria Secret or Spiegel. These labels have the letters "ARS" printed in the top right corner. That stands for "Authorized Return Service."

These ARS labels indicate a prepaid shipment. The shipper is paying for the return shipment. In most cases, however, you are going to have a partial refund deducted from your account. In the case of Victoria Secret, it is usually $4.95. Is it beneficial to use these ARS labels or just pay for the return shipment yourself? It is normally better to use the ARS label. Shipping rates start at about $5.75, so anything less than that deducted from your refund is better than paying standard rates for shipping the product(s) back.

ARS is very similar to, but not the same as, RS. Return Service is another type of prepaid label. It still means that the company is paying for the return. The differences are transparent to the sender. It has to do with the way the package is billed on the return shipment.
