How does insurance work?

When you ship a package via UPS, you are automatically covered for the first $100.00 of value per package. Additional insurance may be purchased at the time of processing the package.

Visit your local The UPS Store location to properly package, insure and ship your package or documents. Keep in mind that documents and perishables are not insurable, but that $10,000 Rolex watch is. Typically, insurance costs about $1.00 per $100.00 of value OVER the first $100.00 of value (covered by UPS). So, a $10,000 Rolex will cost $99.00 to fully insure for the shipment.

When The UPS Store packages an item for you, it is assumed packed correctly by the insurance carrier. If you pack an item, an inspection might reveal that inadequate packaging material or outer packaging were used. If that is the case, the claim will be denied... SO, stop by your local The UPS Store for the peace of mind in knowing that the product is packaged correctly. If the shipment results in a claim, The UPS Store will file the claim on your behalf and monitor the claim process... just another value-added service offered by The UPS Store locations!
